World leader in race wiring harness technology sets up a new home in Brome.

Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. These names will be immediately familiar to motorsports fans across the world.

A name which might not be quite so familiar is that of Renvale Ltd. Renvale makes all of the wiring harnesses, sensors and electronics systems used by all but one Formula One team. And in its field, Renvale is the world leader.

The company, run by Stephen James, has just moved to a new 18,500 sq ft headquarters and production facility, on a five acre site in Brome. Since 2009, the company has grown from just eight employees to more than 40. For Stephen James, the new headquarters is also something of a homecoming. His dad, Tony, sowed the seeds of Renvale after pioneering a new technology, at his three- bedroom bungalow in Diss. “My dad founded Tony James Component Wiring, which pioneered the use of military wiring for use in Stephen James is following in his father’s footsteps as a motorsport pioneer Lotus Formula One cars,” said, Stephen.

“The nature of the industry means that other Formula One teams soon took up the technology when it proved a success and its has, with development, been used ever since. ”Stephen James joined his father’s company in 2000 after working as a race engineer in the UK and America. He founded Renvale in 2009, at Wetheringsett.

The company has now also taken on a number of new projects, including research and development with Warwick University, which leads in the field of high-voltage battery technology, used in electric and hybrid cars. “We are much more specialised than my dad’s company, which also branched out to agricultural vehicles. Our focus is on motorsports,” said Stephen. “We are partnered with a company in France, called Texys, which makes the hardware for formula one cars including the sensors for aerodynamics, brakes, instrumentation, and the two arms work well together. “My dad was a pioneer in his field and is very proud of what we have achieved.”
